I don't know where I was born exactly, except it must have been in
Hamilton, Ontario. I was found at the SPCA in Hamilton by the
trainers of the James Dunn Dog Guide Training Centre in Oakville,
Ontario. They adopted me and put me in a really nice foster home for
about 6 months where my foster family treated me like their own. I
got medical attention, food, treats and very good training.
When I was one year old, the trainers came and got me and took me back to
the training centre in Oakville. A really nice lady, Rhonda, took me
under her wing and taught me all kinds of neat things like telling
her when the phone rings and when someone knocked on a door. It was
fun because I always got a treat or a toy to play with when I did it
right. I learned to do it right really quick. I was there at the
James Dunn Training Centre for six months and then another lady came
to the centre and we met and fell in love. I really like her. She
very good to me, but I love to eat, so she has to watch how much she
gives. We practice all the things I learned at the school every
week, so I don't forget.
My favourite job is telling her when someone is knocking at the front door.
I love getting company but she tells them not to pet me. You're not suppose
to pet a Dog Guide because you'll distract them from there job. Darn, I love being
petted but she gives me lots of affection so I guess it's okay. She
takes me everywhere (well, just about). I try to be a good Dog Guide where
ever I am, so people can appreciate how much Dog Guides mean to
people. So if you see me or any other Dog Guide, be aware that we
are working and we love our jobs!
